Reimbursed Specialty Meals

Whole-Person Wellness

Happy Food Meals is grounded in the growing body of research connecting nourishing, whole-food meals, movement, stress support, and overall well-being. Chef Kimber has supported clients alongside their licensed medical professionals through many health journeys, including nutrition challenges, disordered eating recovery, cancer support, chronic illness, environmental exposures, fertility, weight management, hormone balance, and other individualized wellness needs. Happy Food Meals and yoga are not medical treatment, do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease, and are intended to complement, not replace the care of a physician or other qualified healthcare provider.

HSA/FSA Reimbursement for Medically Tailored Meals

In some cases, customers may be able to request reimbursement from an HSA or FSA for medically tailored meals when a licensed healthcare provider determines the meals are appropriate to support the treatment or management of a diagnosed medical condition.

Happy Food provides prepared meals that may support a provider-directed nutrition plan. However, eligibility for HSA/FSA reimbursement depends on your individual plan, your HSA/FSA administrator, your healthcare provider’s recommendation, and applicable plan or legal requirements.

Some Happy Food customers have successfully used medical nutrition benefits or HSA/FSA-related reimbursement processes through their own providers and plans. For example, Liberty Family Medicine in Columbia, Missouri, has supported multiple patients using medically tailored meal services. This does not guarantee that any individual plan, provider, employer, insurance carrier, or administrator will approve reimbursement.

Important Notice

Happy Food is not an insurance company, HSA/FSA administrator, medical provider, law firm, tax advisor, or billing service.

Happy Food does not determine whether meals are medically necessary, whether an expense is eligible for reimbursement, or whether a claim will be approved. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, coverage, payment amount, processing time, or tax treatment.

Customers are responsible for confirming benefits, obtaining required documentation, paying for orders, submitting claims, and retaining records.

How It Works

  1. Talk with your healthcare provider. Ask whether medically tailored meals may be appropriate for the treatment or management of your diagnosed condition.

  2. Request a Letter of Medical Necessity. If your provider agrees, ask for a signed Letter of Medical Necessity, often called an LMN.

  3. Complete the Happy Food intake form. Submit your information and upload your Letter of Medical Necessity, if available.

  4. Purchase your meals. Place and pay for your Happy Food order through the normal ordering process.

  5. Keep your itemized receipt. Happy Food can provide itemized order documentation when available.

  6. Submit your request to your HSA/FSA administrator. You are responsible for submitting your Letter of Medical Necessity, itemized receipt, and any other requested documents directly to your plan administrator.

  7. Keep your records. Retain copies of your Letter of Medical Necessity, receipts, claim submissions, and administrator communications.

What May Be Needed

Your HSA/FSA administrator may request some or all of the following:

  • A signed Letter of Medical Necessity from a licensed healthcare provider

  • Itemized receipts for Happy Food purchases

  • Documentation of the diagnosed condition or provider recommendation

  • The date the provider recommendation began and any expiration date

  • Additional information requested by your HSA/FSA administrator

A Letter of Medical Necessity should come from your licensed healthcare provider—not from Happy Food Café.

Important Payment Information

All Happy Food orders must be paid for at the time of purchase unless another written arrangement has been made directly with Happy Food.

HSA/FSA card payment may not be available through checkout. Customers may need to use another payment method, retain their receipt, and submit a reimbursement request to their HSA/FSA administrator afterward.

Custom orders, substitutions, snacks, desserts, a la carte items, delivery fees, tips, shipping, add-ons, alcohol, merchandise, and other non-meal charges may not qualify for reimbursement. Your administrator decides what, if anything, is eligible.

Customer Responsibility

By submitting the HSA/FSA Reimbursement Request and Customer Acknowledgment Form, you understand and agree that:

  • Happy Food does not guarantee HSA/FSA eligibility, reimbursement, coverage, or approval.

  • Your healthcare provider, not Happy Food, determines whether medically tailored meals are appropriate for your condition.

  • Your HSA/FSA administrator has sole discretion to approve, partially approve, deny, delay, audit, or request additional documentation for a claim.

  • You are responsible for understanding your plan’s requirements, deadlines, documentation rules, and tax treatment.

  • You are responsible for paying for all Happy Food purchases at the time of order.

  • Happy Food may provide customer support and itemized documentation when available, but does not provide medical, legal, insurance, tax, or reimbursement advice.

  • Happy Food is not responsible for denied, delayed, partially reimbursed, reversed, or audited claims, or for any related taxes, penalties, interest, costs, or damages.

  • Happy Food may review submitted documents for customer-service or intake purposes only, not to determine legal sufficiency, medical necessity, tax compliance, or reimbursement eligibility.

Privacy and Documents

Please submit only the information needed to support your request.

By submitting this form, you authorize Happy Food to receive and retain your Letter of Medical Necessity and related intake information for customer support, meal-plan coordination, account notation, documentation support, and recordkeeping.

Happy Food is not responsible for documents sent to an incorrect address, uploaded incorrectly, rejected by a third-party system, or submitted after a plan deadline.
